Red will flood Main Street in Marion when USD 408 students and staff parade Monday on Main Street in a walk against drug abuse.
“The goal is to come together as a school district and community to show that we are united in the fight against drug abuse,” USD 408 counselor Kris Burkholder said.
The school is encouraging community members to wear something red and join the walkers when they assemble at 2 p.m. in Central Park.
The entourage will walk from the park to First Street, then turn and walk back up Main Street to the USD 408 Sports and Aquatic Center. Marion Police Department will direct traffic during the walk.
Students will participate in a short assembly at the center before returning to their schools.
The event is a kick-off for “Red Ribbon Week” for USD 408, during which there will be daily activities at district attendance centers promoting drug awareness and drug-free lifestyles.
