Stutzman Refuse Disposal sold

Staff writer

Waste Connections Inc., of Folsom, Calif., has purchased Stutzman Refuse Disposal Inc., the largest provider of waste and recycling services in Marion County.

All of the company’s contracts and services will continue, said Don Rogers, sales and operations manager of Stutzman Refuse Disposal, headquartered in South Hutchinson.

“We’ll probably see few to no chances in services,” Rogers said. “It will be the same guys in the same trucks.”

The only place he anticipates may undergo route consolidation is Sedgwick County.

Why did Waste Connections decide to buy the company?

“We’re a growth company who specializes in buying trash companies throughout the country,” said Jim Spencer, division vice president of Waste Connections.

Stutzman Refuse Disposal was an attractive company to purchase because it is “an extremely well-run company with good assets and great people,” Spencer added.

The biggest change with new ownership will likely be an expansion of recycling services, Rogers said.

Waste Connections favors recycling programs, Spencer said. Single-stream recycling — that is, recycling in which customers put all of their recyclables in a single container without sorting them — is popular with customers because it makes recycling easy, he said.
