The second annual James Weber Memorial Coed Softball Tournament was played Oct. 1 and 2 at the Jim Clemmer Memorial Ball Field. In the final game, the Double-Wide Pride team came from behind to defeat a Herington team for the championship. Proceeds from the tournament went to the James Weber Memorial Scholarship Fund. The team sponsored by The Spot of Herington collected more than $800 and donated it to the fund. Weber’s mother, Lisa Hanschu, thanked everyone for supporting the scholarship program. She announced that Shelby Deines, Trevor Trout, and Quentin Wacker were this year’s scholarship recipients.

Jim and Diane Herron, Andrew, Peter, Maria, John, and Michael of Chippewa Falls, Wisc., stayed Oct. 2 through 6 with her parents, Jerry and Jeanne Rziha.

Frank and Anna Mae Stika and Lori Moldenhauer attended a Centre volleyball game Oct. 5 and watched Anna Weber play. Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu attended for parents’ night.

Tampa women attending the weekly Learning in Retirement program Oct. 4 at Tabor College included Mary Clemmer, Georgia Spohn, and Jane Vajnar. Linda McAllister presented a program about her father, Harry Remple, and his journey from Russia to the U.S. The presentation included a video of Remple talking with family and schoolchildren about his experiences, which was recorded when he was 98 years old.

Edna Mueller and Adeline Bernhardt ate dinner out Oct. 5 in Salina.

Peggy Kleiber of Salina visited Andrea Klenda, Elijah, and Evan John on Oct. 1 in Pilsen. They invited Leona Kleiber for a pizza lunch. Leona became acquainted with her new great-grandson, Evan John. Evan is the son of Dale and Andrea Klenda. Lynn and Peggy Kleiber and Dennis and Terry Klenda are his grandparents. Great-grandmothers are Ruth Wiegel, Theresa Klenda, and Leona Kleiber. Evan’s big brother, Elijah, is 2.

Lucille Kerbs accompanied Russ and Julie Kerbs and Jesse and Ashton Smith and Sydney to Rosalina Flint Hills High School Oct. 2 to watch Rustyn Kerbs play on the Centre football team. Glenn Kerbs of Dodge City met them there and brought his mother home. He stayed overnight. The next morning, Glenn and Lucille went to the recreation center in Abilene for a freshman volleyball tournament and watch Taylor Thompson play. Also in Taylor’s cheering section were Tim and Marchelle Kerbs of Salina and Connie Thompson and Allison Sluder of Abilene. Lucille, Connie, and Allison went out for dinner.

The descendants of William and Marie Utech held their annual family reunion Oct. 3 at the home of Edna Mueller. Others in attendance included Erna Peterson of Osage City; Bill and Carol Utech, Junior and Elizabeth Utech, Mark and Sheryl Pheasant, and Keith and Dianna Powell of Topeka; Bryan and Janet Smith of Berryton; Garland and Dianna Utech of Amsterdam, Mo.; Junior Hanschu of Ramona; Jayson and Jan Hanschu, Jakob, Jorge, and Jaxxon of Hillsboro; Jennifer Braden and Joshua of Windom; Neil and Jolene Albrecht, Kallie, Morgan, and Landon of Salina; Delores Siggs of Goddard; Lance and Cindi Ferguson and Taylor of Wichita; and Grace and Bill Raven of Marietta, Ga.

Leona Kleiber attended the funeral of Irma Heiser on Oct. 2 at Strassburg Baptist Church.

Tom and Dee Duggan took their granddaughter, Kaylee Hall of Herington, out for supper Oct. 2.

Adeline Bernhardt stayed Oct. 1 through 4 with Carl and Kathy Hubbard of Wellington. All attended the wedding of Bryan Shaw and Michelle Jensen on Oct. 2 in Wichita.

Lynn and Peggy Kleiber of Salina and Tim and Amanda Baxa of Wichita were visitors Oct. 3 of Leona Kleiber. They also spent time during the weekend with Dale and Andrea Klenda, Elijah, and Evan John.

Frank and Anna Mae Stika attended the coed softball tournament in Tampa.

Tom Duggan represented Marion County at the Silver-Haired Legislature Sept. 27 through 29 in Topeka. The legislators met to consider issues to present to the state legislature when it convenes. Some of the issues discussed were grandparents’ rights, seat belts in buses, and training for drivers of buses larger than 15-passenger. Dee accompanied her husband to Topeka and attended some of the meetings. They visited his sister, Betty Frick, in the hospital and talked with her husband, Don.

Leona Kleiber brought treats to the Lutheran Bible study group Oct. 1 in celebration of her birthday.

Deb and Kaylee Hall of Herington took Tom and Dee Duggan out for supper Sept. 30 for a belated celebration of Grandparents’ Day.

Tom and Dee Duggan went to Emporia Sept. 30 to investigate sites for a Red Hat outing.

Rhea Kolling of Herington and Dee Duggan attended the Salina Community Theater production of “Hello, Dolly!” Sept. 26.
