Jesse and Rita Jirak are grandparents again with the birth of Annika Marie Florey to Phil and Melissa Florey on Aug. 18. Sisters Jessika, Della, and Alexandria welcome her. Margaret Jirak is the baby’s great-grandmother.
Dale Clemmer of Salina took his mother, Mary Clemmer, to Emporia on Aug. 17 to visit Adeline Wood, JoAnne Fowler, Jann Jaggard, and Bill Wood. All but Adeline ate dinner out.
Adeline Bernhardt visited Willis and Eleanor Herbel on Aug. 16.
Nearly 200 relatives and friends surprised Mary Jirak on Aug. 15 for her birthday at the senior center. Hosts were her family: Francis Jirak; Father John Jirak; James, Sandy, Monica, Dominic, Isaac, Elizabeth, and Rachel Jirak; Albert, Teresa, Blaise, Gabriel, Augustine, Josephine, and Bernadette Jirak; Travis, Maria, Felicity, and Bridget Gear; and Kristine Jirak. Five of Mary’s six siblings, her mother, and her mother-in-law attended.

Jerry and Jeanne Rziha had an early celebration for their 40th wedding anniversary Aug. 14 and 15. Their children and grandchildren gathered at Mary Dell Camp near Abilene. Those who attended included Wayne, Shannon, Cecilia, Anthony, and Daniel Rziha of Tulsa, Okla.; John, Jeanne, Michael, Christopher, Joseph, Thomas, Timothy, Charles, and Anna Rziha of Atchison; Jim, Diane, Andrew, Peter, Maria, John, and Michael Herron and Emilio, Janie, Antonio, and Sebastian Aita of Chippewa Falls, Wis.; Susie Rziha of Independence; David, Caterina, Isabel, and Samuel Rziha; Cecilia Rziha; and Julie Rziha. Bonnie Haslouer of Abilene visited Aug. 14 and Carol Whitehair arrived after church Aug. 15 to take pictures. The family also celebrated Andrew’s and Isabel’s birthdays. The Herrons stayed the week with the Rzihas. The Aitas stayed last week. All were supper guests Aug. 13 except John’s family and Julie. Some stayed overnight with Jerry and Jeanne and David and Caterina.
Frank and Anna Mae Stika, Lori Moldenhauer, Nikki Stenzel, and Mark Gilford ate dinner out after church Aug. 15.
Lynn and Peggy Kleiber and Nick visited Leona Kleiber on Aug. 14. They were heading home after visiting Dale and Andrea Klenda and Elijah of Pilsen.
Mike, Kathy, Ryan, and Cassie Bauer of Omaha stayed the weekend visiting Tillie Hein and Jim, Kris, Grant, and Cole Srajer.
Many local people attended Dan Holub’s July Fourth party Saturday evening. The event was a picnic supper and fireworks in Holub’s backyard.
Georgia Spohn visited Leo and Sue Yonda on Aug. 14.
Adeline Bernhardt and Leona Kleiber attended a Tupperware party Aug. 13 in the basement of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church-Holy Family Parish, Pilsen. Terry Klenda and Andrea Klenda were hosts.
