Tampa was a busy place Oct. 9 as residents and visitors celebrated the annual Santa Fe Trail Fest. Two new additions to the festivities were a quilt show and a tractor show. Larry Stucky won first place in the tractor show. Others entering tractors were Paul Backhus, Gene Barney, Gary Spohn, and Lonnie Nickel. Sixty-four quilts were displayed. Five prizes were awarded to Ann Collins, Charlotte Nickel, Michele Berens, Melissa Stuchlik, and Tillie Hein. Darla Hall found the adult medallion and Kaylee Hall found the one for children. Covered wagon rides were provided by Leroy Schmidt and his mule team. Entertainment included re-enactments by Old Abilene Town Gunfighters, songs from Gladys Thomas, and charcoal drawings by Jennifer Hathaway.

Carl Hubbard of Wellington visited Adeline Bernhardt on Oct. 7.

Jane Vajnar accompanied Kim Frantz on Oct. 7 to Wichita to visit the Sedgwick County Zoo. Animals they especially enjoyed included scarlet macaws, leopards, tigers, giraffes, grizzlies, otters, and frogs.

Sunflower Senior Citizens and guests took a tour Oct. 13 of the Tall Grass Prairie Preserve and ate dinner out in Cottonwood Falls. Those participating included Tom and Dee Duggan, Magdalen Dvorak, Shirley Zaideman, Jane Vajnar, Zeb and Norma Wright, Lorraine Havlik, Betty Ohm, and Velda McDiffett.

Anna Mae Stika and Lori Moldenhauer were hosts Oct. 13 for a meeting of the Tabitha Society in Herington.

Gary and Carole Spohn and Georgia Spohn met Melvin Mohn of Lyons and Diane Becker of Chicago, Ill., for dinner out Oct. 12 in Hillsboro.

Julie Stika visited Frank and Anna Mae Stika on Oct. 13.

Sunflower Senior Citizens met Oct. 12 at the senior center for the monthly potluck. Chris Costello gave a presentation about his recent trip to Croatia. Ronda Shurr-Abell and her friend, Sandy, from Hospice were guests and spoke briefly. Others present were Mary Costello, Marlene Andrus, Leo and Sue Yonda, Tom and Dee Duggan, Magdalen Dvorak, Tillie Hein, Leona Kleiber, Mary Clemmer, Adeline Bernhardt, Shirley Zaideman, and Jane Vajnar. The Yondas are new members.

Lenora Graham of Florence visited her cousin, Georgia Spohn, on Oct. 10, and they ate dinner out.

Russ and Julie Kerbs and Ashton Smith and Sydney were after-church visitors Oct. 10 of Lucille Kerbs. Tim and Marchelle Kerbs of Salina also joined them. They went to Abilene, where they met Doug and Connie Thompson, Taylor, and a friend for dinner out.

The family of Martin Stika held a barbecue reunion Oct. 10 at Pilsen. Among those attending were Frank and Anna Mae Stika, Lori Moldenhauer, Nikki Stenzel, Mark Gilford, Lisa Hanschu, and Anna and Tien Antoszyk.

Adeline Bernhardt, Edna Mueller, and Linda Ihde attended fun night Oct. 10 at the senior center in Ramona.

Georgia Spohn met Norma and Orlin Wagner of Wichita for dinner Oct. 9 in Hillsboro.

Lucille Kerbs accompanied her daughter, Connie Thompson of Abilene, to Marion on Oct. 9 for a junior varsity volleyball tournament. Taylor Thompson was a player.

Gary and Carole Spohn visited Ryan and Jamie Spohn in Lincoln, Nebr., on Oct. 10 to help Ryan celebrate his birthday.

Irma Benda visited Frank and Anna Mae Stika on Oct. 9.

Enid Albrecht of Wichita met her sister, Georgia Spohn, in Hope on Oct. 7 for dinner out.
