Tampa was a busy burg Aug. 28 and 29 when a coed softball tournament was played. The event was sponsored by Tampa PRIDE to raise money for a proposed park project. The Makovec family team and the Bailey Tavern Longneckers were both undefeated coming to the championship game. The Makovec team prevailed, 5-4. The team donated the $75 prize money to Tampa PRIDE.

A dedication ceremony was Aug. 28 at the ball diamond, renaming it the Jim Clemmer Memorial Ball Field after the longtime Tampa mayor. Chris Costello spoke about Clemmer’s contributions to the community. Clemmer’s wife, Mary, was in attendance with family and friends including Jo Anne Fowler, Bill Wood, Mary Johnson, and Jann Jaggard of Emporia; Bob and Margaret Grochowsky; Nyle, Kathi, Alex, Meaghan, Kyle, Abigail, and Ryan Sutton; Geoff and Barbara Gray; and Marlene Clemmer of Topeka.

Dale and Sandy Clemmer; Charles Clemmer; Cassie, Christian, and Connor Clemmer; Don and Staci Clemmer,; Shawn, Karin, Blayke, and Seth Clemmer of Salina; Larry and Annette Sneary of Strong City; Bob Brookens of Marion; and Delores Dalke of Hillsboro. Sen. Jim Barnett sent his regrets that he was not able to attend.

Tampa State Bank sponsored their annual hog roast Aug. 28 with a street dance. The band Justus provided music.

A number of Tampa people attended the Durham Baptist Church Sunday school picnic Aug. 29 at the park in Durham.

Tim and Amanda Baza of Wichita; Dale, Andrea, and Elijah Klenda of Pilsen; Lynn Kleiber, Nick Kleiber, and Kendra Baumberger of Salina; Adeline Bernhardt; and Leona Kleiber ate dinner Aug. 29 at the café.

Kaylee Hall of Herington and Tom and Dee Duggan attended church services Aug. 29 in Salina and went shopping for Kaylee’s school clothes.

Lisa Hanschu, Anna Weber, and Tom and Lori Moldenhauer visited Frank and Anna Mae Stika Aug. 29.

Visitors of Lucille Kerbs Aug. 28 and 29 were Glenn and Eloise Kerbs; Clayton and Leah Kerbs; Doug, Connie, and Taylor Thompson; Jeremy and Allison Sluder; Russ, Julie, and Rustyn Kerbs; and Jesse, Ashton, and Sydney Smith. Some were dinner guests. Most attended the softball tournament and hog roast.

Lorraine Havlik of Marion and Mildred Albright of Emporia visited Adeline Bernhardt on Aug. 28. They attended the hog roast together.

Lori Moldenhauer spent Aug. 28 with her daughter, Nikki Stenzel, in Manhattan.

Tom and Dee Duggan met Joyce Cox and Redella Lay of Abilene and Everett and Rhea Kolling of Herington on Aug. 27 in Durham for supper out. They were celebrating Rhea’s birthday.

Tim and Amanda Baxa of Wichita were guests Aug. 28 and 29 of their grandmother, Leona Kleiber. Additional guests overnight Aug. 28 were Lynn Kleiber, Nick Kleiber, and Kendra Baumberger of Salina. Dale, Andrea, and Elijah Klenda of Pilsen joined them later to attend the hog roast.

Visitors of Frank and Anna Mae Stika on Aug. 28 were Anna Weber and a group of friends.

Tom and Dee Duggan attended a senior citizens meeting Aug. 25 in Durham.

Cindy Vinduska of Marion visited her mother, Leona Kleiber, on Aug. 27.

Family attending Adam Halls’ Eagle Scout ceremony Aug. 14 at Christ Community Church in Lee’s Summit, Mo., included Ernie and Darlene Kite of Bartlesville, Okla.; Deb and Kaylee Hall of Herington; Darla Hall of Lee’s Summit; John, Bryan, and Riley Bowman of Kansas City; and Tom and Dee Duggan. Three other young men received the Eagle Scout award with Adam. All graduated in May from Lee’s Summit West High School and are now attending Missouri State University in Springfield.
