Shady Ladies group takes trip to Emporia

Members of the Shady Ladies chapter of the Red Hat Society went to Emporia on Oct. 27. They stopped at Strong City for coffee and rolls. At Emporia, they toured the William Allen White home and ate lunch out. In the afternoon, they visited several stores. Those participating were Joyce Cox of Abilene; Charles and Anita Hummel and Betty Schlesener of Hope; Rose Mary Deines, Rhea Kolling, and Karolyn Schlesener of Herington; Ramona Beisel, and Dee Duggan.

A group eating dinner out Oct. 27 included Earl and Ruth Pankratz of Newton, Lenora Graham and Greg Graham of Florence, Bruce and Beverly Sloan of Montana, Karen Pankratz of California, Gary and Carole Spohn, and Georgia Spohn. They were celebrating Earl and Ruth’s 70th wedding anniversary.

Dolores Scott of Emporia visited her mother, Tillie Hein, on Oct. 27. They ate dinner out in Salina and spent the day together.

Prairie Pals met Oct. 26 in the Lutheran church basement with Lori Meyer and Laveta Meyer as hosts. The group played Halloween games. Others in attendance were Michele Berens, Addie Berens, Mary Clemmer, Maleah Meyer, and Jane Vajnar.

A potluck dinner Oct. 1 in the Lutheran church basement honored Leona Kleiber’s 85th birthday. After dinner and taking photos, all went to Leona’s home to continue the celebration. Those attending the festivities included Terry and Cindy Vinduska of Marion; Lynn and Peggy Kleiber and Nicholas, and Kendra Baumberger of Salina; Dean and Becky Rouch, Melody, Allison, and Danielle, and Aaron and Holly Routh, Easton, and Payton of Augusta; Phyllis Kenney and Bill and Dana Wendling of Lincoln, Neb.; Sara Vinduska and matt Frazier of Moundridge; Daniel and Melissa Stuchlik, Tanner, and Allie and Dale and Andrea Klenda, Elijah, and Evan of Pilsen; Tim and Amanda Baxa of Wichita; and Adeline Bernhardt. All of Leona’s family was present except her granddaughter, Jill Vinduska, of Orlando, Fla. Decorated birthday cakes, ice cream, and drinks were served.

Georgia Spohn met Lenora Graham and Paulette Zook of Florence on Oct. 25 in Hillsboro. They attended a Learning in Retirement program at Tabor College and ate dinner out. Charlene Patton, spokeswoman for Kansas Soybean Association, presented the program. She had a display of products containing soy and talked about the usefulness and health benefits of the soybeans.

Deb and Kaylee Hall of Herington and Dee Duggan attended a Halloween tea Oct. 24 at Herington High School. Dee also attended the Pretty Party, an event for breast cancer awareness month, which was October.

Lucille Kerbs went to Salina on Oct. 23 and 24 to help Connie and Taylor Thompson and Allison Sluder with a garage sale.

Cindy Vinduska visited her mother, Leona Kleiber, on Oct. 23.

The annual meeting of the Senior Citizens of Marion County board of directors Oct. 21 was a special event, celebrating 50 years. Two former directors spoke and former board presidents and board members attended. Tampa people attending included Tom and Dee Duggan, Adeline Bernhardt, Leona Kleiber, Betty Mueller, Iona Dietrich, Tillie Hein, and Jane Vajnar.

Gary and Carole Spohn and Georgia Spohn met Steve and Sheri Spohn for supper out Oct. 22 in Hope. They celebrated Gary’s birthday.

In a recent correspondence item, a visitor to Frank and Anna Mae Stika was given as Julie Stika. Her name is Julie Sader.
