Tampa is once again buried in the snow. This time the nighttime temperatures have plummeted to the wrong side of zero with daytime marks very little above it. It has been cold enough all week for many people to prefer the fireside to the outside.

Carl Hubbard of Wellington was a dinner guest Jan. 5 of Adeline Bernhardt and helped her with some chores.

Connie Thompson of Abilene spent Jan. 5 with her mother Lucille Kerbs. They took down her Christmas tree and had dinner out.

Kathy Oborny took Jane Vajnar to Marion and Hillsboro Jan. 5 for an appointment and shopping.

Greg Sklenar of Wichita was a Jan. 2 and 3 guest of his mother, Lois Sklenar.

Russ and Julie Kerbs and Rustyn, Ashton Smith and Sydney, and Lucille Kerbs had dinner out Jan. 3 in Abilene.

Guests of Gary and Carole Spohn Jan. 1 were Leo and Sue Yanda, Steve and Sheri Spohn, and Georgia Spohn.

Frank and Anna Mae Stika and Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu and Anna were dinner guests Jan. 1 of Tom and Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki. The Stikas were also supper guests.

Glenn Kerbs was an overnight guest Dec. 31 of his mother, Lucille Kerbs and attended church with her. Joining them for a post-Christmas family dinner on Jan. 1 was Eloise Kerbs, Tim and Marchelle Kerbs, Doug and Connie Thompson and Taylor, Russ and Julie Kerbs and Rustyn, Reuben and Cristy Kerbs and Charlotte, Clayton and Leah Kerbs, April Kerbs, Allison Phillips, Jeremy Sluder, and Jesse and Ashton Smith and Sydney. Molly Kerbs was unable to come due to illness.

Maria Gear, Felicity, and Bridget spent from Dec. 13 to Dec. 16 with Maria’s parents, Francis and Mary Jirak. Kristine Jirak spent her Christmas break with her parents.

Sydney Smith spent the morning with Lucille Kerbs on Dec. 12.

Sunflower Senior Citizens and numerous guests enjoyed their Christmas party Dec. 15 with Tom and Dee Duggan as hosts. Dinner at the café was followed by a musical program and dessert at the senior center. Benny Holtsclaw played his guitar and sang, encouraging those present to sing along. Other present included Marie Holtsclaw, Leo and Sue Yanda, Gary and Carole Spohn, Georgia Spohn, Mary Clemmer, Adeline Bernhardt, Leona Kleiber, Shirley Zaideman, Carol Zaideman, Tillie Hein, Linda Ihde, Edna Mueller, Betty Mueller, Lois Sklenar, Lucille Kerbs, Jane Vajnar, Ramona Beisel, Frances Stuchlik, Janet Bielefeld, Bob and Margaret Harris, Marilyn Montgomery, Ruth Tajchman, Eva Holub, Melissa Meyer, Lorraine Havlik, Al and Darlene Sondergard, and Jim Oborny.

The Holy Redeemer Altar Society met Dec. 13 at the café for their Christmas party with Dee Duggan and Kathy Kroupa as hostesses. Laura Klenda gave a slide presentation about her trip to Israel. Others present were Kathy Oborny, Kim Oborny, Jeanne Rziha, Mary Jirak, Carla Hajek, Kris Srajer, Francie Mueller, Monica Leihy, Monica Svoboda, Teresa Tajchman, Vickie Jirak, Virginia Bentz, Mary Ann Frantz, and Gwenn Belton.

Dec. 13 visitors of Lucille Kerbs were Mary Clemmer and Jane Vajnar. Rustyn Kerbs was an evening visitor.

Tom and Dee Duggan attended the Christmas program Dec. 14 at Herington Elementary School. Their granddaughter, Kaylee Hall, was one of the students performing.

Lori Moldenhauer and Anna Mae Stika visited Nikki Stenzel Dec. 12 in Manhattan, and they enjoyed dinner out.

Shannon Rziha, of Tulsa, Okla., recently went back to Houston for laboratory work and scans. No remaining cancer was found. She is rehabilitating in Tulsa.

Mary Clemmer visited Lois Sklenar Dec. 12.

Connie Thompson of Abilene visited her mother, Lucille Kerbs, Dec. 12 and helped with Christmas decorations. They enjoyed dinner out in Durham.

The annual community Christmas party Dec. 6 was well attended, although numbers were down a bit compared to 2008. Gary and Carole Spohn took first place in the parade. Their float featured Snoopy in a Santa suit riding a John Deere tractor. Second place went to the Hajek family’s float with an outhouse and a sign saying, “Not this house, Rudolph!” Jane Vajnar took third place with her portrayal of Rudolph. Santa came to visit with the children and pass out treats. Games and snacks followed.

Greg Sklenar of Wichita and Valerie Hampton of Hillsboro spent Thanksgiving with their mother, Lois Sklenar. Larry Hampton of Sierra Vista, Ariz., spent several days with her just before that.

Tim and Amanda Baxa of Kansas City were recent weekend guests of their grandmother, Leona Kleiber. They also spent some time with Dale and Andrea Klenda and Elijah of Pilsen. On Dec. 12, Lynn and Peggy Kleiber of Salina joined Leona, the Klendas, the Baxas, and Nicholas Kleiber for supper out in Lost Springs.

A number of Tampa residents attended the annual friendship supper at Morning Star Church. Dinner was followed by a musical program by the church’s youth. Those enjoying the evening included Adeline Bernhardt, Leona Kleiber, Betty Mueller, Tillie Hein, Jane Vajnar, Tom and Dee Duggan, and Raymond and Janet Beilefeld.

Lucille Kerbs spent Nov. 29 to Dec. 3 in Branson, Mo. Others taking the trip were Elmer Gooding of Tempe, Ariz., Virgil and Barb Goodling of El Dorado, and Don and Cecile Penney of Topeka. They saw five Christmas shows: “The Andy Williams Show,” “Twelve Irish Tenors,” “Shoji Tabuchi Show,” the “Baldknobbers Jamboree Show,” and the “Spirit of Christmas” variety show. Lucille rode back with Virgil and Barb Gooding. Russ and Julie Kerbs and Ashton Smith and Sydney met them for supper out in Lost Springs.
