James and Tara Luna gave information about the opening of the café. La Luna will open June 14. The Lunas will feature Mexican food, but there will be other selections available. Hours and menu may change depending on the demand. La Luna will be open five days a week. Hours will be 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Everett and Rhea Kolling of Herington, Joyce Cox and Dixie Kracke of Abilene, and Tom and Dee Duggan attended the matinee performance of “Hillbilly Hotshot” at the Great Plains Theater May 15 in Abilene. Lucille Kerbs saw the play May 12 with Doug and Connie Thompson and Jerry and Allison Sluder. After the play, Taylor Thompson and Brooklyn Sluder joined them for dinner.
Sunflower Senior Citizens met May 14 at the senior center for a catered dinner, business meeting, and program. Sue Yanda acting was the hostess.

Tom and Dee Duggan attended the Herington Middle School eighth-grade recognition ceremony May 14. Their granddaughter, Kaylee Hall, was one of the students honored. Others present in support of Kaylee included Deb Hall, Rhea Kolling, Jessica Sjodal, her friend, and her daughter Jossilyn.
Jerry and Jeanne Rzhia spent Mother’s Day weekend at the home of Barney and Linda Bernhardt of Wichita. Those helping Joy Martin celebrate her first birthday and an early Mother’s Day on Saturday with a cookout in the backyard included Carl and Kathy Hubbard of Wellington, John Haynes and Heather and Jim Haynes of Wichita, and a number of other relatives and friends. After the cookout, they enjoyed decorated cupcakes and cake balls on a stick. After dessert, Joy opened gifts.
On Sunday, Barney and his mother, Adeline, attended morning worship at Grace Lutheran Church, and Barney took his mother out for dinner.
