Jim and Mary Clemmer’s niece recently called them with some amazing news, the completely unexpected birth of her grandson. The baby’s mother had not felt movement or exhibited any of the other usual symptoms of pregnancy. The boy was named Samuel Michael Karns after his late grandfather.

Ted and Maxine Zielinski were weekend guests of Jim and Kris Srajer, Grant and Cole. Kris returned home with them after spending a week working in Omaha.

A group of women enjoying dinner out Monday in Hillsboro included Lorene Kleiber, Leona Kleiber, Adeline Bernhardt, Tillie Hein, Beryl Steiner, Dee Duggan, Shirley Hamm, Bonnie Crandall, and Eleanor Herbel.

Kathy Oborny and Jane Vajnar attended a diabetic class Tuesday evening at Hillsboro Community Medical Center at Hillsboro. The class was the first of four weekly sessions taught by Jeanne Rziha.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs met Elmer Gooding of Tempe, Ariz., and Glenn Kerbs of Dodge City Sunday at McPherson. They enjoyed dinner out and visiting. Reuben, Lucille, and Elmer went to McPherson Country Club for the 80th birthday party of Virginia Schulz.

Adeline Bernhardt accompanied Barney Bernhardt of Wichita Saturday evening to Salina. They attended a supper and program in which Barney was inducted into the USBCBA bowling hall of fame. He was presented with two plaques, one with all of his bowling honors and one with his picture. Lillian Campbell also was inducted as an outstanding bowler in women’s bowling.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs went to Hutchinson Saturday. Reuben attended a meeting of the Local 157 Union at the Hampton Inn. Lucille and Susan Boulware went to some garage sales and did a lot of visiting. They joined the men for dinner.

Tom and Dee Duggan spent Sept. 30 through Oct. 2 at Topeka where Tom represented Marion County in the Silver-Haired Legislature. On Tuesday evening they visited Don and Betty Frick. En route home they stopped at Herington to visit Deb Hall and Kaylee.

Debra Dody visited her grandmother, Tillie Hein, Friday.

Adeline Bernhardt was among those attending a potluck supper and mission festival Wednesday evening at Saint John Lutheran Church. The featured speaker was Beth Hiney. She and her husband and family do missionary work in Africa.

Lucille Kerbs went to Abilene Thursday afternoon. She watched the junior high volleyball game with Junction City and Clay Center at Abilene High School. Her granddaughter, Taylor Thompson, was on the team. Taylor’s parents, Doug and Connie Thompson, also were there to cheer her on.
