Tom and Dee Duggan returned home Tuesday evening from a six-day vacation with a tour group. They toured the John Deere factory in Moline, Ill., but most of their time was spent in the Chicago area. Highlights included a cruise on the Chicago River and Lake Michigan, viewing the night scene from the top of Sears Tower, and a tour of Soldiers Field.

Sunflower Senior Citizens met at the senior center for their monthly potluck dinner, business meeting and card bingo. They made plans for an outing Oct. 23, when they will pick up a former member, Martha Melcher, at her home in Herington and take her out for dinner.

Georgia Spohn met her cousin, Lenora Graham of Florence, Monday in Hillsboro. They attended the Learning in Retirement program at Tabor College and enjoyed dinner out. James Wiebe presented a program about his favorite fishing holes with a display of photographs of outdoor scenes.

A good crowd enjoyed the Santa Fe Trail Fest Sunday afternoon. The medallion hunt was a popular event with Kenny Rindt finding the medallion in the adult competition and Reece Berens in the children’s hunt. Annette Sneary and Jeanne Rziha organized games for the children. Other activities included hayrack rides behind Jonas Frantz’s Belgian horses, a cakewalk, karaoke, a hotdog supper, and music by Maurice Pritz and friends. The festival was sponsored by Tampa Community Association with Cardie Oil and Tampa State Bank donating the entertainment and the medallions prizes, respectively.

The Kleiber family reunion was held Sunday at the Tabor College cafeteria. Those attending were Bob and Phyl Kenney, Bill and Dana Wendling, and Neva Heidebrecht of Lincoln, Neb.; Bob and Lola Ruth Clark of Cook Station, Mo.; Lowell Socolofsky of Colorado; Leona Fessler of Emporia; Barbara Wuthnow of Abilene; John and Lucille Heiser of Ramona; Hilda Seifert and Terry and Cindy Vinduska of Marion; Lynn Kleiber and Nicholas of Salina; Becky Routh, Melody, Allison and Danielle of Augusta; Dan and Melissa Stuchlik, Tanner and Allie, and Andrea Klenda and Elijah of Pilsen,; and Leona Kleiber.

Weekend guests of Jerry and Jeanne Rziha were Diane Herron, Andrew, Peter, Maria and John of Topeka, Cecilia Rziha of Wichita, and Julie Rziha of Atchison.

Lucy Young of Wichita, Valerie Hampton of Hillsboro, and Greg Sklenar of Wichita were Saturday visitors of Lois Sklenar. Greg was an overnight guest.

Lucille Kerbs visited Connie Thompson, Allison, Taylor, and Courtney Geist in Abilene Saturday, and they enjoyed eating out.

Family members gathering at the home of Leona Kleiber Sunday evening for a belated celebration of Leona’s birthday were Terry and Cindy Vinduska, Lynn Kleiber and Nicholas, Becky Routh, Melody, Allison and Danielle, Daniel and Melissa Stuchlik, Tanner and Allie, Andrea Klenda and Elijah, Adeline Bernhardt, Bob and Phyl Kenney, and Bill and Dana Wendling. Birthday cakes, ice cream, and drinks were served. Several were unable to come due to illness and other commitments.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs attended a graveside service at the Sunset Hill Cemetery in Herington Friday for Gene Ruhl, followed by a lunch at Council Grove. Reuben was an honorary bearer.

Gary and Carole Spohn, Georgia Spohn, Steve and Sheri Spohn, Ryan Spohn, and Jamie Hall enjoyed supper Friday evening in Lindsborg to celebrate Ryan’s and Gary’s birthdays.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs went to Abilene Thursday afternoon to watch a volleyball game between Abilene Middle School and Concordia. Their granddaughter, Taylor Thompson, was on the team, and Doug and Connie Thompson went to cheer her on.

Guests of Francis and Mary Jirak from Sunday to Friday were Fr. John Jirak and Maria Gear, Felicity and Bridget.
