If anyone would like a poor man’s fall foliage tour, just drive up Main Street in Tampa. The old, majestic maple tree in front of Tim and Monica Svoboda’s house is a sight to behold, and the young maples in front of the Lutheran church are also impressive.

Tom and Dee Duggan visited Joyce Cox Tuesday in Abilene.

Georgia Spohn met Lenora Graham of Florence in Hillsboro Monday. They attended the Learning in Retirement program at Tabor College and enjoyed dinner. Bill and Helena Born presented a program about their trip to Turkey with particular emphasis on Biblical sites.

The Knights of Columbus breakfast at the senior center Sunday was well attended. The sisters from Hope provided entertainment.

Tom and Dee Duggan went to Talmadge Monday for the funeral of Kelle Enger.

Dolores Scott of Emporia and Pam Fillmore of Cottonwood Falls spent Tuesday with Tillie Hein, and all went to Wichita.

Sunday supper guests of Frank and Anna Mae Stika were Lisa Hanschu, James and Anna and Lori Moldenhauer. Ice cream and cake were served in celebration of Lisa’s birthday.

Daniel and Melissa Stuchlik and Tanner were hosts of a birthday party and barbecue supper Sunday in celebration of Allie Stuchlik’s third birthday. Guests were her great-grandmothers, Frances Stuchlik of Lost Springs, Ruby Vinduska of Marion, and Leona Kleiber of Tampa, and her grandparents, Terry and Cindy Vinduska of Marion and Monte and Sarah Stuchlik of Lost Springs. Other guests were Mike and Candee Thode and Ruby Scharping of Wichita; Ross and Megan Stuchlik, Damien and Leann Svitak, Heather Steiner and Kenide, and Shane Svitak, Dani, Shi, Payton, and Jonah of Pilsen. After Allie had opened her gifts, everyone sang “Happy Birthday” to her and enjoyed the supper complete with ice cream and a decorated birthday cake.

Bev and Tom Reid of Marion County Lake, Mike and Jennifer Jay and Cody, and Kelsie Penner of Hillsboro, and Jason Backhus, Paul and Edna Backhus, and Brad Backhus enjoyed dinner in Wichita Sunday in celebration of the Reids’ 25th wedding anniversary and Jason’s birthday.

Leo Yanda, Steve and Sheri Spohn, Ryan Spohn, Adam and Lauren, Jamie Hall, Gary and Carole Spohn and Georgia Spohn enjoyed dinner at the café Sunday in celebration of Gary’s birthday.

A large crowd of friends and relatives helped Lisa Hanschu celebrate her birthday with a party Saturday evening in Herington. Tampa people attending were Frank and Anna Mae Stika, Tom and Lori Moldenhauer, and J.Paul and Edna Backhus.

Carl Hubbard of Wellington came to get Adeline Bernhardt Friday, and she spent until Monday with Carl and Kathy. On Saturday, they attended a sixth birthday party of Gabby Stout of Wichita. Ten of the honoree’s young friends had a party from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. and a party for family members started at 3 p.m. Adeline and the Hubbards went to a movie Sunday in Wichita.

Tillie Hein and Kathy Kroupa attended a card party Sunday evening in Herington. They saw Martha Melcher who now is living in Herington.

Paul and Edna Backhus attended the Midwestern Polka Club’s Halloween party Saturday afternoon.

Jim and Kris Srajer, Grant and Cole spent Saturday and Sunday in Wichita, where the boys played baseball with the Cottonwood Valley League All-Stars.

Diana Herron, Andrew Peter, Maria and John of Topeka, Cecilia Rziha of Wichita, and Julie Rziha of Atchison spent the weekend with their parents, Jerry and Jeanne Rziha.

George Brunner visited Frank and Anna Mae Stika Friday afternoon.

Hillsboro Senior Center was host Thursday of the annual Marion County Senior Citizens board meeting. Members of Tampa’s Sunflower Senior Citizens attending were Tom and Dee Duggan, Magdalen Dvorak, Adeline Bernhardt, and Jane Vajnar. Although Tillie Hein had to cancel unexpectedly, she was honored in absentia in anticipation of her upcoming 100th birthday.

Several Red Hat members and their guests attended a grand opening Thursday evening of the renovated opera house in Junction City, and saw the production of “The Music Man.” Those attending were Rhea Kolling, Karolyn Schlesener, Alice Bell, Rose Mary Deines, Chance Berndt, and Verl Schlesener of Herington, and Ramona Beisel and Tom and Dee Duggan. Before going, Ramona and the Duggans stopped to see Tillie Hein and presented her with a corsage and a birthday card signed by those who attended the senior citizen board meeting.

Cindy Vinduska visited her mother, Leona Kleiber, the afternoon of Oct. 11.
