Tampa’s community Christmas party Sunday evening was a huge success. A surprisingly large crowd turned out to watch the town’s first Christmas parade. About 50 children came to see Santa, do crafts, and receive treats. Grownups enjoyed games, visiting, and snacks.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs won the $25 gift certificate awarded in a drawing of residents who had outdoor light displays. Anyone who enjoys holiday lights should drive around Tampa. Many residents have beautiful displays with a nice balance of sacred and secular, white lights and colored lights, and different types of lights including some beautiful icicle lights.

Members of the Red Hat Society were invited to dinner at Hilltop Community Center Wednesday in Herington to lead the other diners in singing Christmas carols. The group presented their “Queen Mother,” Dee Duggan, with a poinsettia plant. The group enjoyed dinner at the café followed by a program and refreshments at the senior center. Gayla Ratzlaff and Lanell Hett of Marion County Department for Elderly were there and Ratzlaff presented a program about her adventure of climbing Pikes Peak last summer. There was a drawing for door prizes.
