Mayor Tim Svoboda informed the Tampa City Council on Jan. 10 that there is a good chance of obtaining a grant to replace the city’s street signs. Some of the signs are rusted enough to make them difficult to read.
“Do we want to pursue this?” he asked.
“I wouldn’t know why not,” Wilbert Backhus replied.
The other council members concurred.
Application for the grant requires a public meeting to inform residents and seek their approval. That meeting was set for 7 p.m. Friday.
The council then discussed details of the grant application, such as preparing a map of the city showing placement of the signs.
The council also decided to seek permission from the county to move the recycle bin to the county lot. Residents have complained that the present location is difficult to access, because the truck that picks up the recyclables leaves deep ruts in the soft ground.
The mayor said County Commissioner Dan Holub informed him that bids are being taken for laying asphalt on 330th Road from Tampa to K-15 and putting chip-and-seal on 330th Road from Tampa to the Quail Creek Road. Work should be finished by June or July.
Bills approved for payment included $215 to Dave Schneider of Lincolnville for installing electricity to the public restrooms, $186.93 for eye-switches, and $832 for heaters for the public restrooms.
