Tampa leaves tax rate unchanged

Contributing writer

A budget hearing Aug. 3 left Tampa’s tax rate for next year unchanged. The town’s budget will total $35,445.

The council also heard details Aug. 3 about approval of an $82,500 grant for sewer improvements and county plans to complete an asphalt-and-gravel resurfacing of Limestone Road south to 290th Road by Sept. 15.

County Commissioner Dan Holub said the county also would put sand on the road past the north side of Tampa to keep dust down.

Mayor Jim Clemmer reminded the council about a tournament men’s slow pitch Aug. 8 and 9 and a co-ed tournament Aug. 29 and 30.

Wilbert Backhus asked the council to purchase for the Santa Fe Trail display a box wagon that was going to be in an auction. The council agreed to purchase the wagon for $500 or less.

Clemmer reported he had contacted the sheriff about dogs running loose. Sheriff Rob Craft said that when the renewal of an inter-local agreement between the town and county has been signed he will enforce the town’s animal ordinance. Commissioner Holub added he would check on the agreement.

Bills for $500 for preparation of the budget, $98.50 for publication of the budget, and $35 for sharpening mower blades were approved.
