CORRESPONDENTS:   Tampa: Many participate in Santa Fe Trail Fest

Around 75 people turned out for the Santa Fe Trail Fest Oct. 11. In the medallion hunt, Nathan Barney was the finder for adults and Kaylee Hall and Madison Lollar-Weber for the children. Leroy Schmidt of Hillsboro gave covered wagon rides behind a team of mules. Alice Thomas of Abilene played the keyboard and sang. The children enjoyed a variety of games with Kaily Barney blowing the biggest bubble in the bubble gum contest. All had a good time.

Gayla Ratzlaff presented a slide show Oct. 13 about her climb up Mount Quandary in July at the Sunflower Senior Citizens meeting. The group had a potluck dinner and a business meeting. Magdalen Dvorak and Jane Vajnar were hosts. Others present included Tom and Dee Duggan, Jim and Mary Clemmer, Frank Patton, Tillie Hein, Leona Kleiber, and Adeline Bernhardt.

The Holy Redeemer Altar Society had supper out Oct. 12. Gwen Belton won the door prize. Other attendees were Jeanne Rziha, Kathy Oborny, Kim Oborny, Myrna Hamm, Kathy Kroupa, Tillie Hein, Dee Duggan, Mary Jirak, Mary Ann Frantz, and Teresa Tajchman.

John and Kathy Oborny, Diane Steiner, and Dan and Kim Oborny, Ethan and Logan, went to Wichita Oct. 10 to attend services of Kathy’s sister, Betty Ann Walsh. The family has the sympathy of the Tampa community.

David and Caterina Rziha, Isabel and Samuel of Atchison were weekend guests of Jerry and Jeanne Rziha.

There will be a public meeting Oct. 28. Tri-County Telephone Association will furnish a light supper, and Angie Schwerdtfeger will present information about the company’s Community Development Initiative. Sandra Fruit will discuss the Central Kansas Community Foundation and the advantages of Tampa affiliating with them to form its own community foundation.

Guests of Tom and Dee Duggan Oct. 3 and 4 were Deb Hall and Kaylee of Herington; Darla Hall and Adam of Lee’s Summit, Mo.; and David Hall of Columbus, Ohio. The group attended Oktoberfest in Lincolnville Oct. 3 where Kaylee performed with a dance team.

Cecilia Rziha of Dallas, Texas; Susie Rziha of Independence; and Julie Rziha of Atchison were Oct. 3 and 4 guests of Jerry and Jeanne Rziha. On Oct. 3, they attended the wedding of Christine Isaacson and Heath Larson in Wichita. Jim and Diane Herron, Andrew, Peter, Maria, John, and Michael of Chippewa Falls, Wis., were guests Oct. 4 through 9.

Adeline Bernhardt and Leona Kleiber attended services for Alice Winter Oct. 6 at Zion Lutheran Church in Hillsboro. Alice grew up in the Tampa community and still had many relatives and friends here.

Frank and Anna Mae Stika, Lori Moldenhauer, and Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu attended a volleyball game Oct. 6 at Centre High School. The group cheered on Anna Weber.

Members of the Shady Ladies chapter of the Red Hat Society entertained Oct. 6 at the Hilltop Community Center in Herington. Their picture was taken by a photographer from “Keynotes,” the Agency on Aging’s magazine. Participants were Joyce Cox of Abilene; Betty Schlesener and Ramona Goracke of Hope; Barbara Askew, Phyllis Allen, Rose Mary Deines, Rhea Kolling, and Helen Sorenson of Herington; and Adeline Bernhardt, Leona Kleiber, and Dee Duggan.

Phyllis Kenney and her daughter, Dana Wendling, of Lincoln, Neb.; Becky Routh, Melody and Allison, of Augusta; and Adeline Bernhardt were dinner guests Oct. 4 of Leona Kleiber. Phyllis had attended the 55th reunion of her nursing class at Via Christi Hospital in Wichita.

Georgia Spohn met Lenora Graham and Paulette Zook of Florence in Hillsboro Oct. 5 for Learning in Retirement at Tabor College.

Tom and Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki were evening visitors Oct. 5 of Frank and Anna Mae Stika.

Donald and Carolyn Srajer of Omaha, Neb., were in Emporia Oct. 2 and 3 for the 60th anniversary of Donald’s fraternity, Alpha Kappa Lambda. On Oct. 4, they were dinner guests of Pam and Bill Fillmore of Cottonwood Falls and then went on to Wichita to watch their grandson, Grant Srajer, play baseball. They spent Oct. 4 through Oct. 6 visiting Tillie Hein and Jim and Kris Srajer, Grant and Cole.

Tim and Marchelle Kerbs of Salina spent Oct. 4 with his mother, Lucille Kerbs, and helped her with some yard work. Jesse Smith and Sydney joined them later for dinner.

Leona Kleiber accompanied Lynn and Peggy Kleiber Oct. 5 to the Centre and White City junior varsity football game. Dale and Andrea Klenda and Elijah joined them to root for Nicholas Kleiber and his teammates.

Becky Routh, Allison and Melody, of Augusta brought supper Oct. 3 to Leona Kleiber in honor of her birthday.

Lucille Kerbs was an Oct. 3 visitor of Connie Thompson, Allison and Taylor in Abilene.

Leona Kleiber was an Oct. 1 guest of Cindy Vinduska for supper out in celebration of Leona’s birthday.

Lucille Kerbs met Gertie Hinkle of Herington Oct. 2 for dinner out.

Adeline Bernhardt took Leona Kleiber out for dinner Oct. 1 for her birthday.

Tom and Dee Duggan spent Sept. 29 through Oct. 1 in Topeka, where they attended meetings of the Silver-Haired Legislature.
