Anyone wanting snow and cold weather during the Christmas season may be getting more than they bargained for. Many people are staying inside wrapped in a cozy afghan or comforter, so news is a little sparse.

Jim Clemmer attended a meeting of the economic development council Wednesday at Burns.

Anna Mae Stika, Lori Moldenhauer, and Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu and Anna attended a basketball game Tuesday evening at Centre to watch James Weber play.

Ryan Spohn of Manhattan visited Gary and Carole Spohn and Georgia Spohn Tuesday.

Julie Rziha arrived Monday night to spend the Christmas vacation with her parents, Jerry and Jeanne Rziha.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs went to Abilene High School Sunday afternoon for a Christmas concert featuring Abilene Middle School music department. Their granddaughter, Taylor Thompson, performed with the band and a singers’ group. Doug and Connie Thompson also were present and all went out for refreshments after the program.

Tony Young visited his aunt, Lois Sklenar, Saturday.

Frank and Anna Mae Stika, Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu and Lori Moldenhauer attended a Christmas concert Monday at Centre. Anna Weber was one of the performers. Other Tampa youth in either band or choir were Grant Srajer, Houston Svoboda, Chad Mueller, and Nathan Barney.

Many turned out to help Martin Hajek celebrate his 85th birthday Saturday afternoon at the senior center. All five of the honoree’s children were able to be present, as well as other relatives and friends.

Tom and Dee Duggan went to Tyro Saturday to be with Dee’s brother, Ernie Bonham. He died about 2:30 a.m. Sunday. Tom and Dee have the sympathy of the Tampa community.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs attended a basketball tournament Friday evening at Herington. Their grandson, Rustyn Kerbs, played.

The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League held its Christmas party and salad supper Thursday evening with Edna Backhus, Phyllis Mueller, and Michele Bielefeld as hostesses. Pastor Clark Davis and Joyce Medley led devotions, and the group enjoyed singing carols. Others in attendance were Kathy Davis, Adeline Bernhardt, Janet Bielefeld, Leona Kleiber, Loretta Sutton, Betty Mueller, and Edna Mueller.

Lucille Kerbs met Gertie Hinkle of Lost Spring noon Friday for dinner out.

The Lions Club met noon Thursday at the café.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs went to Chapman Thursday evening to see a basketball game between the Abilene and Chapman seventh grade girls. Connie Thompson met them there. Taylor Thompson played on the Abilene team. They also briefly saw Doug Thompson before he left for a meeting. Connie drove them around town to view progress of rebuilding after the tornado, including a new house built for the television show, “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.”

Apologies are due to April Kerbs who name was accidentally omitted from an item about the Kerbs family’s Thanksgiving dinner. Sorry, April.
