There have been many changes that have occurred at Hoch Publishing Company.
Transitions this summer included the resignation of our advertising sales rep — she saw an opportunity to do something she had always wanted to do. It was her time and no one can blame her for seizing the opportunity.
Next, our sports and general assignment reporter-turned-advertising-sales-rep decided he wanted to try something different. Good for him for wanting to spread his wings. We wish him only the best.
Our bookkeeper has needed time off to care for her son who is recovering from spinal surgery. We want her to be with her family as needed to get through this difficult time.
Our loyal employees have stepped up and assumed more responsibilities whenever possible. It has not gone unnoticed and is appreciated.
Recently we hired Amanda Ayers as copy editor and Debbie Steele as ad sales rep, filling some of the gaps.
This week, we have reporter Ben Kleine joining our newspaper family. Ben comes to us by way of the University of Missouri-Columbia — sorry, KU fans. He will be a sports writer and general assignment reporter. He is young, energetic, and friendly. We hope you will call him with story ideas and comments.
My goals and the goals of this staff are to report news you can use, provide features with heart and merit, and cover important events. We also strive to bring you news and features that you will not find anywhere else. We hope to educate, enlighten, and provide a few surprises.
We appreciate comments — even the less flattering ones — because it does matter what people think about the newspaper.
Next week, this newspaper will celebrate 140 years of operation. (There is a story on this page.)
Here’s to another 140 years of being Marion County’s community newspaper.
