A change in the city employees’ manual will mean annual evaluations will be on the employee’s anniversary date instead of in December of January.
City Administrator Doug Kjellin suggested to the city council Monday it was more feasible to conduct employee evaluations throughout the year rather than waiting until one particular time of the year.
The city’s auditors noticed in April 2010 that the employees didn’t receive formal evaluations in 2009, which was a violation of the city’s personnel policies.
Another change approved by the council was the option of not having formal evaluations those years when merit raises or cost of living adjustments are not budgeted, as is the case this year. In the past, the evaluations were a tool used to determine salary increases.
Strategic planning session determined
The council agreed to meet with facilitator Jim Heinicke 1 to 5 p.m. Monday as part of a strategic planning session.
The session was dependent on whether Jerry Kline, who was absent from Monday’s meeting, would be available to attend.
