CENTRE:   Troutt, Kassebaum headed to state

A senior boy and a sophomore girl at Centre High School have qualified to participate in the state track meet this weekend in Wichita. Both set personal best records Friday in qualifying events at the 1A regional meet at Madison.

Trevor Troutt placed first in discus with a throw of 142 feet, 7 inches, more than a foot farther than his previous record. He placed second in shot put at 45-7, improving by almost 2 feet.

Theo Kassebaum placed second in the 100-meter high hurdles, beating her preliminary finish of 17.2 seconds by 3 seconds in the final event.

Junior Cole Svoboda was the other Centre athlete to place in the top six. He was sixth in the 400-meter run with a time of 55.2.

Athletes must place in the top four to qualify for state competition.

State preliminaries for Kassebaum will be at 2 p.m. Friday, with finals at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

Troutt will compete in discus at 4:45 p.m. Friday and shot put at 8 a.m. Saturday.
