U.S.-50 reopens

A project to replace deteriorated concrete roadway tying U.S.-50 and U.S-77 to access points of a roundabout at Florence is on schedule.

According to Kansas Department of Transportation, the project began May 5, and despite 3.5 to four inches Thursday night and lightning striking equipment, workers were able to complete the project Monday. The project caused U.S.-50 to be closed a week during construction. With construction being completed, U.S.-50 now is open.

Work began immediately on U.S.-77, southeast of the roundabout, and will be completed with traffic moving through the work zone via temporary traffic lights. That portion of the project is scheduled for completion by the end of May.

No road closing was required for the second part of the project.
