A position vacancy on the Marion-Florence USD 408 Board of Education created by the resignation of member Keith Collett has not as of Monday’s board meeting attracted an applicant.

“At this point we haven’t had anybody express interest in that position,” Superintendent Lee Leiker said. “We did place the advertisement in the paper for the vacancy.”

Leiker noted applicants must meet a Marion-area residency requirement to be eligible.

“They need to live in the representative area where Keith used to live. It would be north of Main Street and west of Eisenhower Drive, and kind of angles up toward the reservoir and takes in Eastshore and that area,” Leiker said.

“The board can operate with six members until next April’s election, so that will be entirely up to you,” Leiker said.

“We’re not under the gun or anything. If there’s an interest and we get somebody right away we can, but we don’t have to do anything,” Board President Chris Sprowls said.

“We’ve got some time to let people think about it, there might be some people sitting on the fence waiting to see,” Sprowls said.

In other business:

• The board approved a 30-cent raise for all hourly employees for 2012-13.
• Transportation and travel expenses for FFA adviser Mark Meyer and a second chaperone for an FFA officers’ retreat Aug. 3-9 in Colorado was approved.
• Minor contract modifications were granted to counselor Chris Burkholder and Meyer for additional responsibilities relative to their positions.
• The board approved the slate of supplemental activities contracts for 2012-13.

The board will hold a special meeting at noon June 27 to conduct end-of-the-year closeout business.
