Vacant house burns in Marion

An early morning fire Thursday at 216 N. Roosevelt, Marion, resulted in a vacant home being a total loss.

According to Marion Fire Chief Mike Regnier, firefighters were summoned at 4:58 a.m. to the report of a structure on fire. When personnel arrived, the entire structure was engulfed.

“We’re not sure where it started,” Regnier said.

Because of the intensity of the fire, the crew had to fight it “defensibly,” Regnier said, which means from a distance. Firefighters were unable to go inside the burning structure because the roof was unstable.

Kansas Fire Marshal’s office was contacted and the cause of the fire was undetermined because of the condition of the building following the fire, Regnier said.

The two-story house was not occupied at the time and is owned by Polish Traders LLC.
