Verle Bowers

H. Verle Bowers, 98, of Herington, died Feb. 5, 2009, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

Born March 23, 1910, at Ramona, he was the son of Oscar and Etta (Fike) Bowers.

He married Estella Engel Feb. 1, 1936, at Lost Springs. She preceded him in death Oct. 27, 1990.

He was a retired conductor from Rock Island Railroad.

He also was preceded in death by a son, David Bowers, a daughter, Claire Ann Bowers, a brother, Dr. James Bowers, and a sister, Lois Bowers.

Survivors include a son James Bowers of Great Bend; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.

Services were today (Wednesday) at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Herington, with Pastor Bill Peterson officiating.

Burial followed at Sunset Hill Cemetery, Herington.

Memorial contribution funds have been established with the church or Herington Senior Citizens Center and may be sent in care of Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Herington.
