The Centre High School volleyball team traveled to Hartford Oct. 21 to participate in a 1A regional tournament.

Going in with a 14-13 record and first place in the Eisenhower League, they had a first-round bye and faced 11-15 Madison in the second round.

Playing with determination, alertness, and enthusiasm, the Lady Cougars won the first game of the match, 25-22.

Their enthusiasm appeared to wane in the final two games as they dropped both, 25-9 and 25-16, to lose the match.

They took consolation in the fact that they ended the season with a winning 15-14 record, an improvement over the 13-14 record in 2007. They were strong in league play, winning 12 of 14 matches.

Amanda Floyd served for a total of eight points including two aces. Other scorers were: Bridgette Burns four including one ace, Allison Shields one, Carly Simons one, and Shelby Deines and Leann Pankratz four each including two aces each.

Tori Marler set the ball 20 of 26 attempts, eight for a kill. Simons set the ball 24 of 30 attempts, six for a kill.

Pankratz led at the net with 15 of 22 spikes and 10 kills. Burns delivered eight of 12 spikes and two kills, Simons three of three, Shields five of eight and one kill, and Deines two of six and one kill.
