Walter Harder
Walter E. Harder, 99, of Newton, died April 6 at Newton Presbyterian Manor.
He was born Oct. 4, 1911, in Brainard, to Gustav and Anna (Wiebe) Harder.
On Sept. 7, 1938, he married Frieda Entz in Newton. She preceded him in death July 25, 2002.
He was a retired farmer and stockman in the Peabody area.
His parents, son Wesley, brothers Gus and Herb, and sisters Ann Claaussen, Esther Wiebe, Martha Dyck, and Agnes Wuthrich preceded him in death.
Survivors include his daughter, Marilyn Kaufman of Newton; two sisters, Elsie Regier of North Newton and Ella Judy Harnly of Pennsylvania; three brothers, Arthur of Olathe, Gerhard of Whitewater, and Harold of El Dorado; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was Monday at Emmaus Mennonite Church, rural Whitewater. The Rev. Steve Scott officiated.
Burial preceded the service at Emmaus Mennonite Church Cemetery.
Memorial funds have been established with Berean Academy and the church in care of Peterson Funeral Home, 215 N Main St, Newton KS 67114.
