Walter Marion “Butch” Smith, who wanted to be called Smitty, 71, passed away Nov. 5, 2010, at San Andrea, Calif.

He was born April 21, 1939, in Marion, to Marion Nathan and Pauline (Hunt) Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Joni; a daughter, Karen; his sister Shirley Duke and her husband, Gene, of Durham; as well as aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial was Nov. 10 and he was entered into rest at Angels Memorial Chapel at Angels Camp, Calif. The Rev. Dave Kinney officiated.

Inurnment was private.
