Walter Straub

Walter “Wally” Straub, 79, of Great Bend, died Jan. 19 at Kaye Pogue Hospice Center, Salina.

Born Aug. 4, 1931, at Claflin, to Tony and Mary (Kimpler) Straub, he was a lifetime resident of Great Bend.

On Dec. 27, 1952, he married Barbara Jane Schartz at Wichita. She died May 13, 1973. He then married Elizabeth “Betty” Hickey on May 31, 1974, at Hoisington.

He was owner of Straub International and member of St. Patrick Catholic Church-Prince of Peace Parish.

Three brothers, Raymond, Milton, and Vernon, and two sisters, Bernadine Bridges and Delores Schlochtermeier, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Betty of Great Bend; two sons, Ron of Great Bend and Larry of Salina; three daughters, Linda Hart of Lenexa, Donna Leger of Humble, Texas, and Beverly Corkill of Lawrence; two sisters, Patricia Moore of Wichita and Dorothy Hamilton of Nevada, Mo.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services were Monday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Great Bend with the Rev. Reginald Urban officiating.

Burial was in Great Bend Cemetery.

Memorials have been established with Barton County Food Bank, Central Kansas Medical Center Foundation for the benefit of the Heartland Cancer Center, and Sts. Peter and Paul Restoration Fund in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Road, Great Bend KS 67530.
