Wanda K. Backhus Schmidt, 53, of Fort Worth, Texas, passed away Nov. 30, 2010, at the John Petersmith Hospital in Fort Worth.
Wanda was born June 14, 1957, at Abilene, to Wilbert and Donna Backhus. She was baptized on July 7, 1957, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Tampa, and confirmed April 4, 1971.
Wanda attended grade school in Tampa until the schools in Tampa closed. She then attended Lost Springs Grade School. She attended Centre High School and after graduation attended Kansas State University in Manhattan.
After two years at K-State, she moved to Salina and worked several jobs. This is where she met her husband. They were married Aug. 28, 1982, at Salina.
Shortly thereafter they moved to Fort Worth, Texas. In Fort Worth, she worked as a bookkeeper until she got her real estate license. She worked as a real estate agent until several years ago.
She is survived by her son, Joseph S. Schmidt III and daughter, Amie C. Schmidt, both of Ft. Worth; her parents, Wilbert and Donna Backhus, sister Tina Clement, brother-in-law B. J. Clement, and nephew Todd Clement, all of Tampa; as well as a number of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A funeral service was 2 p.m. Dec. 6, 2010, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Tampa, with the Rev. Clark M. Davis officiating.
Interment was in Tampa Lutheran Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with St. John’s Lutheran Church in care of Zeiner Funeral Home, Marion.
