Warrior ball teams post 6-1 week

Baseball 4-0, softball 2-1

With regional action beginning Monday, momentum is heavily favoring the Warrior baseball team, which will enter the Lyons regional as the top seed.

Three days after repeating as the sole champion of the Heart of America League, the Warriors closed out the regular season on the road, destroying the Canton-Galva Eagles.

Blaine Mermis got the easy win on the mound in the opener, tossing a no-hitter in 4 innings as the Warriors shut out the Eagles in five, 13-0.

The worst was yet to come for the Eagles, who managed a meager three hits total in both games.

The Warriors broke the final game wide open in the top of the first, erupting for 16 runs en route to a 27-2 shellacking.

Jaxton Tracy pitched two of the three innings for the victory, firing a no-hitter and striking out four Eagles to close out the Warriors’ regular season at 18-2.

With bad weather threatening Tuesday, the Warriors’ softball team only got one game in against Bennington, but it was an 11-0 shutout win.

On Friday, Marion had to settle for a split against Canton-Galva with the Eagles hanging on for an 8-5 win in the opener.

Grace Overton took the loss, surrendering 8 hits and 4 earned runs despite striking out three.

Behind Chisholm Waner’s pitching and good defense, the Warriors spoiled Canton’s bid for a sweep with a 9-6 win to move to 12-5 on the season.

Waner allowed five earned runs and struck out four for the win.
