Warrior girls take 1st at meet
The Marion High School girls track team placed first Thursday at Hesston and the boys team placed sixth.
Julia Zeiner won four events — the long jump, with a distance of 17 feet, 7.5 inches; triple jump, 38-7, edging fifth-place teammate Monica Spachek, who jumped 32-9.5; the 100-meter hurdles, with a time of 15.27 seconds; and the 300 hurdles, at 46.35.
“Julia did a great job in the 100 hurdles against two of the best in the state,” coach Grant Thierolf said.
Jaclyn DeForest won multiple medals for the Lady Warriors, including first in the 3200, 13:38.44, and second in the 1600, 6:10.25.
“Jaclyn DeForest really started the meet out for us on a positive note by winning the 3200 and we just kept rolling from that point on,” Thierolf said.
Whitney Gordon placed second in the high jump, 5-0, and fifth in the 400, 1:06.37.
Also earned a first-place medal for the Marion girls was Kristen Steinborn with a time of 27.69 in the 200.
Other medal winners for Marion include Bridget Lundy, fourth in the 1600, 6:19.01; Emma Hett, sixth in the discus, 98-8.5; and Danae Edwards sixth in the 100, 13.39.
The Lady Warriors placed second in the 4x100 relay, 53.28, and third in the 4x400, 4:27.62.
Sheldon Boone placed first for the Warrior boys with a 165-0 throw in the javelin.
Parker Ash won multiple medals, placing second in the shot put, 47-11.5, and fifth in the discus, 126-10.25.
Jordan Hett won two medals — one for third in the 3200, 10:38.91, and one for fifth in the 1600, 4:54.16.
“We were really pleased with Jordan Hett, two very tough races and he ran very well,” Thierolf said.
Brady Hudson placed fourth in the high jump, 5-10.
Colten Johnson placed fifth in the pole vault, 13-0.
