Warrior teams lose to Inman

The Marion High School girls team lost 36-31 Tuesday to Inman in Marion.

Center Whitney Gordon kept the Warriors in a game that seemed destined to be an easy Inman victory.

Gordon scored when the Warriors needed points. Gordon hit a hook shot to bring the score within 2 points, 31-29, late in the fourth quarter. Gordon dropped in 12 points for the night.

When the Warriors needed rebounds, she hit the glass. Gordon recorded 10 boards for the game including 3 offensive rebounds.

When the Warriors needed a deft passer, she filled that role; Gordon notched 3 assists by drawing multiple defenders in transition and then passing the ball to the open Warrior near the basket. Donna Cady benefited twice for 4 of her 8 points; Katey Ehrlich benefited once for 2 of her 7 points.

Gordon also stepped up on defense blocking 5 shots and recording 5 steals.

Even with Gordon playing at a high level, the Warriors could not overcome 23 turnovers that led to 18 Inman points. Marion also shot 0-for-16 from 3-point land.

Boys

With one of their best players recovering from illness, the Warriors lost 54-29 to Inman at home.

Marion sorely missed the scoring prowess of Jordan Hett. The Warriors shot 26.3 percent from the field. Five Marion players scored. Dane Purkeypile was the highest scorer with 12 —Purkeypile also grabbed 9 rebounds — Jacob Harper contributed 8 points, Jordan Versch scored 5, and Mikael Antoszyk hit a 3-pointer.

The Teutons also won the rebounding battle, 36-29, and turnover differential, 10-23.

The Warriors play 6 p.m. Friday at Bennington.
