Warrior wrestlers take 2nd

The Marion High School wrestling team placed second as a team Friday in the Hoisington Cardinal Classic.

Seven Warrior wrestlers finished in the top three in their respective weight classes in the tournament.

Brody Carroll, 138 lbs., and Colten Johnson, 160 lbs., placed first in their brackets.

Eric Regnier, 120 lbs.; Cole Lewman, 152 lbs.; and Evan Slater, 220 lbs. all placed second.

Beretta Janzen, 160 lbs., and Brayden Putter, 132 lbs., placed third.

“We were much more consistent on Friday than we had been in a while,” head coach Chad Adkins said. “We will get Kyle Palic back this week for our duals on Thursday and Friday. We are getting ready to wrestle a lot of matches over the next two weeks to get tuned up for regionals and state.

Three Marion wrestlers also placed first in the junior varsity tournament Saturday: Putter, Zac Dvorak, and Adam Janzen.

“John Nordquist and Nathan Cyr wrestled and did well,” Adkins added. “They keep getting better. The tournament ran smoothly and our kids wrestled well.”

The Warriors are scheduled to wrestle in the Remington Double Dual meet on Thursday and the Onaga Tournament on Friday.
