Warriors place high at Marion meet

Marion High School cross-country runners Colin Williams and Emily Hague streaked to third-place finishes in their respective races at a home meet Tuesday at Marion Country Club.

Williams covered the 5K course in 19 minutes, 22 seconds, while Hague clocked a time of 24:09.

The pair were the only two Marion runners to medal in the event.

Both runners improved on their performances at a Thursday meet in Herington.

Hague took fourth in Herington with a time of 26 minutes, 55 seconds, and Williams placed sixth at 21:43.

“Emily did not feel well at the start, but continued to pass people during the race,” Bucklin said. “Colin was in 10th most of the race but ended up breaking away.”

Meggan Frese was 23rd in the girls’ race at 32:39.

Ethan Darnall was 30th at 25:00, Devin Regnier was 33rd at 25:36, and Tyler Arocha was 39th at 26:58.

Bethany Grimmett and Luisa Junqueira earned junior varsity medals. Grimmett was second. Junqueira was eighth.

Middle school team runners Heidi Grimmett, Sydney Williams, Cross Brown, David Sawyer, and Colton Bourdreaux all individually placed in the top 10 of their races, earning medals.
