Hillsboro
The Warriors broke their recent slide of sixth-consecutive losses by defeating Hillsboro Thursday at Marion, 57-49.
An offense that seemed to be in hibernation burst to life against the Trojans. The Warriors’ top three scorers, and senior leaders, had almost identical lines at the end of the game. Vogel scored 18 points, grabbed five rebounds, and dished three assists. Case scored 18 points and grabbed four rebounds. Hett scored 16 points, nabbed five rebounds, and recorded four assists.
Late in the fourth quarter, the three Marion seniors all had 16 points to make up the total score of 48 points. The symmetry was appropriate considering that Case, Hett, and Vogel constituted the Warrior offense all year.
Hett ignited the Warrior offense by pouring in several midrange jump shots in the first half.
“In the first half, Isaac couldn’t miss,” Case said.
Then Case got into the act by hitting two open 3-pointers from the corner of the court. Marion ended the game shooting 61 percent from the field.
The Marion victory is only the second in the last six meetings between the two teams. Two years ago, the teams split their matches between the two sites like this year.
“It’s just different when we play Hillsboro,” Case said.
