With all of the rain the county has been receiving, harvest has been complicated for some farmers.

“Everything right now has been slow,” Marion extension office manager Ricky Roberts said. “We’re slow to get the wheat in, slow to get the corn off, slow to get the beans off, and it’s just slow and why that is is because cause of all the dang wet weather.”

Hillsboro Coop manager Dick Tippin said that he heard 60 to 70 bushels an acre was estimated for soybeans, and that, as of Friday, Hillsboro has taken in 16,000 bushels, while Marion has taken in 11,000.

“We need a few more weeks of dry weather to get the bean harvest going good,” Tippin said. “By the end of October, maybe most of the beans will be in, maybe November, but it depends on the weather.”
