LETTERS:   What do we want?

To the editor:

We lived here 50 years ago and this town was a thriving town with car dealers, clothing, jewelry, grocery, and shoe stores, and restaurants. And we had a thriving St. Luke Hospital with good doctors who took care of you. Now we only have a couple of doctors and we are building a new hospital. What for? Now that we have nothing, we have to travel to other towns to buy things.

We don’t even have a good restaurant that serves breakfast except on Saturdays. The majority of things we want we can’t get here.

We saw an advertisement on TV about our beautiful county lake, encouraging visitors to come and enjoy the beautiful scenery and recreation. Why would they want to come here when we won’t build cabins that supposedly could cause crime but yet bring revenue to our county. Are we asking for crime by advertising our lake that could bring all kinds of people here that could possibly bring crime to town? They are spending our tax dollars to advertise for crime to come to town, which they could have used to build the cabins.

We don’t know whether it’s the Old Timers or the young ones who don’t want this town to thrive.
