Willis Smith

Willis G. “Smitty” Smith, 72, of Herington, died April 22 at Medicalodges of Herington.

He was born March 2, 1939, at Hope, to Ira S. and Dora Mae (Oyster) Smith.

He was an over-the-road truck driver, a bull and bronco rider, and had assisted with the Strong City Rodeo for many years.

Three brothers, Milton, Clyde, and Richard, and four sisters, Iola Friedly, Dolley Hoffman, Betty Fowler, and Darlene preceded him in death.

Survivors include two sons, Gary of Bushton and Randy of Emporia; three stepsons, Jim and Jerry Swift of Emporia and Travis Carman of Akron, Colo.; a stepdaughter, Jennie Brenner of Akron, Colo.; a brother, Royal, of Marion; two sisters, Deloris Hird of Herington and Lorraine Griffin of Fruitland, Ore.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church. The Rev. Shawn Baird will officiate.

Inurnment will be in Rosebank Cemetery.
