Woman convicted of sex offenses faces charges here, too

A 24-year-old Dodge City woman, who pleaded guilty recently to five of 23 original counts of sexual exploitation in Ford County, was booked into Marion County Jail last week on charges of rape, sodomy and sexual exploitation of a child that allegedly involve taking inappropriate photographs of a child here.

While declining to provide details of the case, county attorney Susan Robson said the incident that was alleged to have happened in Marion County came to light while sheriff’s deputies were assisting Ford County authorities with an investigation.

“They went and got her after that county was done with her,” Robson said.

The nature of the charges here would tend to indicate that the case involved a child between the ages of 14 and 17.

Robson could not provide details about the Dodge City cases, but legal secretary Karen Genereux inKansas the Ford County attorney’s office there said that the women, Ashley Kelly, had originally been charged with 23 counts of sexual exploitation, pleaded guilty to five of them, and was awaiting sentencing when Marion County deputies arrested her.

“The sentencing is continued because Marion County got here before we were finished,” Genereux said.

Both Robson and Peabody police chief Bruce Burke said the arrest was not related to an investigation of similar charges begun Jan. 19 by Peabody police. County jail records do not show any arrests consistent with the Peabody investigation.
