Wrestlers take 2nd at Onaga
Warriors sport 3 champions and 5 runners up
Three wrestlers took first, five placed second, the team took second as the Warriors rocked the mats Friday at a tournament in Onaga.
Coach Tyler McMichael said some of Marion’s wrestlers faced ranked opponents
“I was happy with how the team ended up,” he said. “We started a bit rocky but came around as the night went on.”
Marion lost to Perry Lecompton 48-24 in round one; however, they rallied to beat all other teams in the succeeding rounds, dominating Pleasant Ridge 48-6, Wabaunsee 42-19, Onaga 56-6, and Rock Creek 54-6.
“Everyone did a great job of contributing to our team points when we needed them to,” McMichael said.
Bryce Shults, Charlie Nordquist, and Tyler Palic all won their weight classes.
Nordquist and Palic went undefeated in their respective weight classes, while Shults logged a 4-1 record, losing a 145-pound match but winning all his matches at 138 pounds, his normal weight class.
Ethan Darnall, Jarrett Johnson, and Brock Mitchell all went 4-1 at their weights. Darnall and Johnson placed second. Mitchell did not place.
Also placing second, Noah Albin went 3-1, Kolton Brewer went 3-2, and Jarrett McLinden went 4-2.
Marion wrestles next at Saturday at Chase County.
