Yes, Santa, there is a Kaden

Looking through the eyes of a child leaves a possibility that there is hope, positivity, and good still in our presence.
Like other county students, third grader Kaden Smith of Marion wrote a letter to Santa Clause in class to be published in the “Dear Santa” section in this paper.
“I love you very much,” he wrote. “You give me presents and sometimes you help sick people with giving presents. Not like the Nightmare before Christmas.”
As cute and thoughtful as his letter was, Kaden’s gratitude wasn’t over.
Monday, the newspaper office received another “Dear Santa” letter from Kaden, child’s scrawl covering the front of the envelope and written on a Garfield stationary. It was a first for our “Dear Santa” section--a thank-you card dated Jan. 4:
“Dear Santa,
“I am thankful for my hyper drift drone.
“I can’t wait to crash it. I will play with it so my brothers won’t mess with it. I will play with it because I love it.
“Sincerely, Kaden”
Contacted by the paper, Kaden’s mother, Jenny Smith, said she knew nothing of this note.
