We all know about the plan for the youth center, and we’ve all heard yeas and nays at the idea. Personally, I know very little about the plan’s progress, but from what I have heard, it is supposed to be a great place for youths to hang out.
I know many people are excited, including myself. I believe a youth center in Marion would be very beneficial. From the responses I have heard, it would definitely go to good use. But how can we be sure?
Actions speak louder than words in most cases, so I think a trial run should be held. Plans should be put on hold for the youth center; then, when the remodeling is done at the city auditorium, that building should be opened up for a week or so as a temporary youth center.
Themed dances, Guitar Hero competitions, and other parties could be held to get things going. It would be nice to know how many kids would actually show up to use the center. I believe many teens were intrigued by the idea, and seeing some action could get them even more interested.
If the “trial-run” youth center got enough of a good response, then a building could be located and secured. Holding an experimental run could only help; then money won’t be wasted on something that won’t get a positive response.
Simple amenities, such as drinks, snacks, music, and various board games would be nice to have at the center. And money could be raised both before opening and after by charging a small fee for drinks and snacks to help the center financially.
In the long run, having a run-through for the youth center could end up helping everyone. When the center gets a good response from the youth, then plans should be continued accordingly.
