Zeiner leads Warriors in medal haul at Beloit Relays

The Marion High School track team won five first-place medals Friday at the Beloit Relays.

Julia Zeiner won the long jump with a meet record 18 feet, .5 inches, and the triple jump, 38-1 as part of a four-medal performance on the day. She also took second place in the 300-meter hurdles, 46.89 seconds, and fifth place in the 100 hurdles, 15.85.

Whitney Gordon won the high jump, with a leap of 5-2, Nick Klenda won the discus, 159-8, and Sheldon Boone won the javelin, 158-1, defeating teammate Colten Johnson who finished third, 145-6.

The Warriors also had two second-place finishers: Johnson in the pole vault, 12-0, and Jordan Hett in the 3200, 10:23.

Parker Ash – 4. Shot put, 45-8.

Brady Hudson – 4. High jump, 5-6.

Drew Maddox – 5. Long jump, 19-11.

Dillon Richmond - 4. Pole vault, 11-0.

Ryan Jones – 6. 1600m, 4:57.1.

4x800m relay - 3. Eric Vogel, Patrick McCarty, Hett, Jones, 8:37.

Kristen Steinborn – 4. 200m, 28.21.

Jaclyn DeForest – 6. 3200m, 12:49.9.

“I’m really happy with our distance squad at Beloit,” coach Grant Thierolf said. “All of the runners improved their times or their splits in a very tough meet.

“Great 200 by Kristen Steinborn who has been getting better each week.

“I’m very happy with the throwers who placed well and competed all day long.

“The meet is great prep for the state meet because it takes all day and one athlete may have three hours between events.”
