Zeiner named female athlete of the year

Marion High School graduate Julia Zeiner has been named female athlete of the year by The Hutchinson News.

Zeiner was chosen because of her performance in three sports her senior year.

She led the Warrior volleyball team to a 25-11 record in the fall.

She scored 17.2 points per game and averaged 5.9 rebounds and 2.8 assists for MHS basketball this winter. She scored double-digits in every game of the 3A state tournament in Hutchinson, leading the Warriors to the title game, which they lost to Thomas More Prep-Marian.

Zeiner also was the Warriors top female track and field athlete in the spring. She won the long jump and 100-meter hurdles at the state track meet in Wichita and placed second in the 300 hurdles and triple jump.

Zeiner is the second Marion Countian in three years to be honored by the newspaper. JuliAnne Chisholm of Hillsboro was The Hutchinson News female athlete of the year in 2007.
