Zoning director put on unpaid leave

Marion County Commission placed Planning and Zoning and Environmental Health Director Bobbi Strait on leave without pay for two weeks Monday.

Commissioners made the decision after meeting in closed session for 25 minutes, including 15 with Strait.

The unpaid leave began Tuesday and will last until Aug. 24. It is intended to give her time to “consider her position and responsibilities,” commissioners said.

Chairman Dan Holub was not at the meeting. Strait could not be contacted for comment.

In other department business, Donald Alcorn’s request for a conditional use permit to allow warehousing firearms at 71 Lakeshore Drive was denied. Lake resident Frances Smalley had collected 21 signatures opposing the request. The zoning panel also opposed the plan.
