The City of Marion has two mayoral candidates in the April 7 election, Theo Bond and Max Hayen. Incumbent Jack Regnier did not file for re-election.

John and Wilma Clawson have taken over the Marion Country Inn motel at Marion which they formerly owned and operated. The Clawsons have been living at Norwich. They are back in Marion to renovate, repair, clean, and restore the motel to its former condition. The motel had deteriorated during recent months.

Scott Wituk, son of Helmut and Carol Wituk of Marion, has been approved as a candidate for the Doctor of Philosophy degree in psychology at Wichita State University. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Vinduska of Lincolnville.

Darlene Vinduska, daughter of Paul and Margaret Vinduska of Marion, has achieved national recognition from the cardiology firm she represents. A division manager for Bard Cardiology, she was named, "division manager for the year" for the firm.

Linda Peterson, Marion County Commissioner, reported on her trip to the National Association of County Officials in Washington, D.C., at the March 10 meeting of the Marion County Democratic Women.

Hillsboro author Esther Vogt has published another book. "The Flame and the Fury" is based on a woman living in Lawrence during the time of Quantrill's notorious raid.

Eight Marion Elementary School students competed in the Kansas Association of Teacher of Math contest. Participants were Kara Holt, Clinton Jeffrey, Michael Brookens, Stephanie Jacobson, Samantha Hett, Amber Richmond, Tyler Stubenhofer, and Timothy Schuler.
