Heavy snow on Thursday, the second storm in mid — March, was wet and wonderful, giving area children and adults the opportunity to experiment with arctic construction projects and snow sculpture. Examples were in evidence all across Marion County. After several hours of work, Josh Montgomery, Sonja Steinborn, Kristin Steinborn, Clinton Jeffrey, and Josh Kelsey came with an igloo on Walnut Street in Marion. What appeared to be a pile of snow actually was a hollow shell in which they all could fit. It was a wonderful experience for the youngsters.

Marion County Emergency Medical Services Director JoAnn Knak was named outstanding service director in the state, the county commission learned Monday at their regular meeting.

Emily Belton of Tampa, a student at Kansas State University, is president of Kansas FFA. This March issue of Kansas Farmer magazine featured her photograph on the cover. The daughter of Ed and Gwen Belton of Tampa, she is majoring in bakery science at KSU.

Announcement was made this week that Warren and Donna Windsor of Peabody will be recognized as one of six Master Farmer/Master Homemaker couples in Kansas. Winners of the award were nominated by county extension councils. Only six are selected from the entire state.

Three seniors from Centre High School have signed letters of intent to play football at McPherson College, They are David Rziha, Fred Silhan, and Kevin Steiner. McPherson College is a member of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference.,

Leah Arnhold and Andy Methvin, students at Marion High School, spoke at Monday's Kiwanis meeting about their experiences at the Hugh O'Brian Youth Foundation leadership seminar.
