Mayor Jack Regnier, who did not seek re-election, served his last day as mayor Monday. He will be replaced next week by Max Hayen who was elected on Tuesday. Voters in the City of Marion selected Hayen by a three to one margin over Theo Bond.

About 120 people attended Marion Kiwanis Club's 75th anniversary banquet Friday. The club was organized in April 1923. Legion of Honor certificates were presented to members who have been in Kiwanis for 25 years or longer. Those recognized were Dean Batt and Bill Meyer, 45 years; Alex Case, 40 years; D.W. Wheeler, Matt Classen, and Bud Hannaford, 35 years; and Gerry Harris and Leland Heidebrecht, 25 years.

Twelve young people from Berlin, Germany, were welcomed to Marion during the regular meeting of Marion City Commission Monday afternoon. They are another group in a long series of Easter season tours of German students to Marion.

Marriage vows were exchanged at 3 p.m. March 7 by Sara Christine Vinduska and Anthony Rigel Hanson in a double ring ceremony at Holy Family Catholic Church, Pilsen. The bride is the daughter of Terry and Cindy Vinduska of rural Marion.

Nine-year-old Trent Crask, son of Randy and Ann Crask of Girard and grandson of Gene and Marge Christensen, is a state champion wrestler in the 125-pound weight division.

Merle Flaming owns the building at the corner of Main and First in Marion. It was too expensive to restore the interior for other use, so he is removing the building and salvaging the cut stone for sale. Much of the stone will go to a Missouri dealer, where it will be used to construct fireplaces.
