Marion County Planning Commission gave its tentative recommendation Thursday to a conditional use permit for Martin-Marietta Aggregates. The company asked for a conditional use permit covering 240 acres of property next to the current quarry.

Downtown Marion will fill with the roar of chainsaws June 5, 6 and 7 during Chingawassa Days. Chainsaw artists Stacey and JoAnne Robinson will turn tree trunks into art as part of the city festival.

At least 63 individuals from Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Oklahoma attended the sixth annual reunion of orphan train riders and their descendants Saturday at the Red Coach Inn in McPherson. Alice Bullis Ayler presented a posthumous certificate of appreciation to Dr. C.C. Jones, a Marion dentist and contact person for Children's Aid Society of New York during the 1920s.

Charlotte Thies, bride-elect of Ty Waner, was the honored guest April 26 at a miscellaneous bridal shower in the fellowship hall of the Marion Christian Church. Hostesses were Pat Chamberland, Donna Fruechting, Jean Miesse, Diane Sams, Betty Thompson, Pauline Schoneman, Betty Sanders, Margaret Tice, Joyce Smith, and Marge Summervill.

Kansas Jayhawk basketball star Jarod Haase will be the featured speaker at the Centre High School athletic banquet to be held Monday in the school gymnasium.

Members of Marion Country Club were entertained Saturday evening at a "Hobo Party" which included dinner and entertainment. Dinner music was provided by Keith Allison. Following the meal, further entertainment was presented by a group made up of Mike Moran on the harmonica and guitar, Bones Ownbey, keyboard, Jim Versch, mandolin, and Mike Taylor, guitar.
