High winds early Tuesday blew in the doors of the oldest hangar at Marion Airport. A Kr-2 kit plane and an antique Cessna owned by Terry Chizek of Marion were damaged by the doors and wind. Planes owned by Don Hodson of Marion and Bob Moody of Marion may have suffered damage as well. City officials said the building appeared structurally sound and would be repaired.

Honor graduates were recognized Sunday at Marion High School commencement. They are Nick Kraus, Andy Methvin, Leah Arnhold, Michelle Wessel, Carrie Thornbro, Shaun Craft, Jennifer Savage, and Amy Helmer. Methvin and Kraus were named co-valedictorians with Arnhold as salutatorian. Arnhold and Methvin were selected as outstanding senior girl and boy.

Bennie Holtsclaw of Cedar Point provided entertainment May 8 at the monthly meeting of the Florentines, senior citizens organization of Florence. Holtsclaw sang ol' time songs and especially recognized Lora Hettenbach, who taught him the song, "Take an Old Cold Tater and Wait."

Sauble Ranch, based near Cedar Point, is one of the centennial farms and ranches across the United States being honored this year for their contribution to the cattle industry.

A group of area landowners asked the Marion County Commission on Monday to take action against a group that wants to develop a recreational trail in the county. Many property owners say the line was abandoned and the property should go to them.

Jennifer Savage, a spring graduate of Marion High School and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rex Savage of Florence, has been presented the 1998 scholarship awarded by Chapter DB of the PEO Sisterhood.
